Developing Your Web Site
(This page uses Pop Up links) |
Web
Site Design
The primary object of a Web Site is to communicate to the world your
image and the message you wish to share. Designing a web site has two
major elements; the vision you want to project to the world, and the
methods we use to accomplish your goals. Throughout the design process,
we will consult with you and provide you with progress reports via your
web site. During the design cycle, we will keep your web site out of
the public view until you direct us to release your web site to the
world.
|
Your
web site will be designed for compatibility with Netscape 4.0 and later
and Internet Explorer 5.0 and later. There are technological advances
available for your web site which are not compatible with web browsers
earlier than version 4.0, we will design with this in mind and inform
you of these limitations, and incorporate a "work around" when possible.
|
The
most important elements in designing a web site are to make it as
informative as possible, a warm and friendly experience, and a desire
to return for more information.

Internet
Service Providers
You may have any Internet Service Provider (ISP) you feel confident to
host your web site. You need to be sure that your ISP is fully capable
of providing the services you require for your web site. We recommend
that your ISP is UNIX/Linux compatible and runs the Apache Web Server
system.
These systems are the standard operating systems for the World Wide Web
and provide support for Ninety percent of all applications used on the
Internet.
We have one Internet Service Provider we recommend.
Earthlink.net.
Earthlink.net is an Internet Service Provider with unlimited
Internet access and web site hosting programs for a monthly fee. Web
sites beginning with a personal web site at 6mb - included with
internet access, commercial web hosting at 200mb, and increasing to
well over 500mb for an additional monthly fee. Earthlink is a
UNIX based Operating system with the Apache Web Server for web hosting.

Domain
Name Registration
Domain Name is the unique name and address on the World Wide Web for
your web site. Unique Domain Names are considered as copyrighted trade
names. There may be many similarities in name, but no duplicates; the
address on the World Wide Web is yours.
Usually
while you are setting up a web site with a web site host, the host will
offer to register your domain name for you for an additional fee. There
will be a fee for the registration with the registrar, and for the
service from the web host.
In the event, you do not have a
registered domain name for your web site we can register your domain
name for you, recommend alternate names if yours is already in use, and
confirm the registration.
We will not charge you a fee for
this service; the registrar of domain names will send you an invoice
for their fee. We will register your domain name with "Network
Solutions" who is responsible for the domain extensions, ".com, .net,
and .edu.".

Search
Engine Registration
One of the most powerful methods for a visitor to find your web site is
to use one of the popular "Web Search Engines". These are massive
databases connected to the Internet, when a user enters a "Key Word" or
"Key Phrase" into the search engine; the search engine returns Hyper
Links to all the web sites that match the search.
You
can be listed with a search engine by two methods. One is to wait for a
search engine "Spider" to visit your web site and catalog the pages on
your web site. Two is registering directly with the search engines the
specific information about your web site and then allowing the search
engine spider to visit and confirm your web pages. (Spiders are robotic
applications that travel the World Wide Web looking for new web sites
and updated web pages.)
During the design of your web site
we will be asking you specific questions about your presence on the WWW
in order to develop page names, descriptions, key words, and key
phrases. This information will be integrated into your web pages to
assist the spiders in cataloging your web site. Careful consideration
to how a visitor may search for your web site may depend on how near
the top of the returned pages your web site will appear.
When
your web site is ready for release to the world, we will register your
web site with the major search engines. This search engine registration
is limited to those search engines that do not charge a fee for
registering.
Search Engines, which charge a registration
fee, or require individual applications and multi-part forms, can be
registered for an additional fee.

The
Bottom Line
Throughout all the efforts, we make to design and promote your web
site, you need to be aware that Web Site Promotion is not the "End All
Cure" for attracting visitors and business customers. You will need to
continue your normal promotional programs. You will need to add your
Unique Domain Name and address to all of your promotional efforts.
Think of every aspect where your business name is presented to the
public; add your domain name at the end. Even small incidents such as a
telephone conversation, at the conclusion of the conversation add, "Be
sure, and visit us on the Web at www.your_name.com".
Having
a presence on the World Wide Web is not a guarantee of instant success;
it is opening doors of opportunity, which were not previously
available. The door to the whole world! Consider a little bookstore
named Amazon.com, and a small chain of bookstores named Barnes and
Noble. Take another look at a small auction house named eBay. Today,
because of their presence on the World Wide Web, they command the
highest rating in Internet trading stock. |
