Manual Shutter

Manual Shutter Speed can aid in the creative process of capturing an image that represents a work of art.

The "Bulb" setting allows the shutter to remain open until you release the shutter button.  This is very useful for capturing night scenes and motion blur.  You will need a tripod to prevent camera movement during the exposure, and a remote shutter release cable to activate the shutter.

Manual Shutter speeds are set in the camera body controls and can vary from Bulb, 1 sec., 1/30 sec., 1/60 sec., 1/125 sec., 1/250 sec., on up to 1/4000 sec.  Notice how the speed values seem to double for each step; this corresponds to the steps in the sensitivity values, and Aperture settings.  For each shutter speed step there is a corresponding decrease/increase in Aperture, Sensitivity, or both.

Change the Shutter Speed 2 steps faster and the Aperture and/or Sensitivity must be changed to equal the 2 step in shutter speed.

The examples on the right demonstrate exposure changes in only the Shutter Speed by +1, 0, and -1 steps.
